Sounds like a Business Plan??

Company Name:            INFORMER

Sector:                PC / Mobile Internet (Software as a Service)

Business Overview:

Actions such as receiving a phone call or SMS, GRAB THE Customer’s ATTENTION to the device. Internet on a mobile phone is primarily, user initiated. Similar events on a PC can be, when a user gets an instant message. However, Internet on PC's is, for most part, pull based. i.e., a user goes to a site and gets content. As smart phones and net-books reach the masses, the need for delivering "value points" to a mobile customer and getting customer's attention, is more now than ever. A push based model guarantees such a possibility. The need for benefiting from internet, as a push based model, is the idea of creating the product "Informer".

Rev potential: Depends on which model will be adopted.

>    Advertisements
>    Publisher Content – PPM
>    Customer Plug-ins
>    Pre-Package the application with device/net book and sell it to OS provider.
>    Company take-over by a big player in industry.

Business Model and Business Development:

Internet is dynamic. New content gets added to it all the time. Internet is vast and the cloud keeps on growing in size. The amount of information that a user will be interested is a small subset of internet. User can define it, at any moment.

(1) It can be quite generic like
>    News
>    Sports
>    Entertainment
>    Business
>    Science
>    Health
>    Twitter updates
>    Orkut scraps
>    Calendar events

(2) OR it can be specific like
>    News of a country
>    Sports of my interest
>    Entertainment in a language
>    Business of a sector
>    Health information related to a disease.

(3) OR it can be even more specific like
>    Price of a particular stock?
>    Weather at my place going to be this weekend?
>    Status of my hosted application?
>    Has a "user defined webpage", been updated?

"Is there any latest information available on points (1), (2) and (3) on the internet?", is a question if answered, will SAVE the customer a lot of TIME. Most of the times, the user is actually concerned with a specific state of the information, rather than the information itself and this is called a "value point",

Example

>    Is the price of a stock above/below a value?
>    Will there be any thunderstorms this weekend?
>    Is my application down?
>    If a "user defined webpage", has been updated, then inform me.

This is where, Informer comes into play. It regularly checks for a user specified “value point”. If met, user may want to take further action. That action can be also defined by user. Sometimes user may just want to get notified, so that he can take further action manually. Informer makes its user to be the FIRST TO KNOW, about any event compared to the non-users of this tool.

To meet the above requirements, Informer contains a set of plug-ins that defines functionality with some user specified criterion. The user adds the plug-ins of interest to her/his profile. Customer can specify multiple recipients of "value points" while making a plug-in configuration.

(4)Sometimes, companies would be interested in telling information to a customer like

>    I have these deals for this weekend.
>    I have these jobs for your profile
>    You have these bills to be paid

When the user begins to use Informer, lot of other businesses might be interested in integrating their systems. In order to facilitate this requirement, "Integration API", will need to be developed.

(5) There are already some existing alerting systems which inform the customer

>    Amount has been credited into your bank account.
>    Your phone bill is past due.

Each notifies the user in its own way. Example: email, sms etc.

It is possible to talk to existing alerting systems through adapters and, to give one standard interface to the customer, using Informer.

Interfaces that Informer intends to support are for Web and Mobile users.

(7) If the customer needs some "value points" that are quite different from normal, and niche, then specific plug-ins to meet that need can be developed.

Indiscrete efforts similar to Informer exist in the market currently. Examples would be usage of blackberry for receiving emails, instant messengers for communication, and Google alerts for receiving news based information. Informer differs from these efforts and provides a single base for all the push based events.
